Ed Porritt, MA Education

Licensed K-12 Principal

Licensed K-12 Teacher

Gifted Education, Special Ed Generalist, Elementary &  Secondary (S.S.) Ed

Ed started in traditional public school, teaching English and Social Studies in grades 5-12.  Shortly after being awarded DAR Colorado History Teacher of the Year, Ed realized his true professional interest was "depth over bredth," both in terms of his relationship with students and of students' learning experiences. Slowly he shifted is focus toward students with emotional and learning challenges who were not realizing their potential. When he began building alternative programs to serve a kaleidoscope of special needs, Ed knew he’d found his calling. A recognized leader in the Boulder Valley School District, he founded three programs for non-mainstream students and served as the district leader of programs and alternative schools that served marginalized populations. Ed then took a leave from public education and opened the independent Catalyst High School.

With Catalyst HS, Ed continued perfecting his educational model that featured strength-based learning. He and his experienced team of professionals melded comprehensive, special education and gifted programming to address the needs of sensitive, creative, brilliant, and often highly-stressed students. After years of research, training, and hands-on experience, Ed now focuses his passion on helping these students identify and leverage their passions, develop resiliency, and thrive. Ed serves on the Boulder Valley Gifted and Talented Board of Directors. He is passionate about helping "2e-type" students, and their families, and consulting with schools and organizations that are dedicated to serving this population.
